Holidays to Lanzarote
Lanzarote, also known as “Conejera” by the locals, has one hundred volcanoes. It is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands, and the furthest east of the chain. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with clean, sandy beaches it is a perfect place to vacation cheaply all year round.
Warmed by the Sahara desert only 60 miles away, you can sunbathe in luxury at Playa Blanca, on the southwest tip of Lanzarote. Playa Blanca is home to a number of top beaches, lined with sunbeds, showers, and an ocean promenade. There is Puerto del Carmen, the largest holiday resort, which has a 12km sandy beach that stretches from Matagorda all the way to the Old Town.
Timanfaya National Park, the home of the Montanas del Fuego (Mountains of Fire) is located on Lanzarote. Access to the park by the public is strictly regulated. There are one or two footpaths, and a popular short camel trip.
Jameos del Agua, a site that houses the Agricola Museum, a restaurant, a series of caves called the Cueva de los Verdes, and the lookout at Mirador del Rio are cheap places to visit. There’s a concert cave near the end of Jameos Grande. This hall has wonderful natural acoustics and offers concerts and ballet performances.
