Restaurants in Lanzarote

As on most islands, cooking is determined by local produce, seafood and fish. The traditional food is fish, lean meat, goat cheese, wrinkled potatoes (papas arugadas) and mojo sauce; either green mojo or red hot chili mojo.

Tapas, small snack portions, are a delightful way to taste many different dishes at one meal. You might find tortilla (potato omelet), chickpeas with chorizo sausage, croquettes of meat or fish, and octopus salad on the menu.

You might want to try a few of these fine restaurants:

  • The Almacén de la Sal in Playa Blanca, a former salt storehouse, has live piano music, outstanding service, and a lovely terrace just a step from the beach. It is noted for salt cod al Pil-Pil, hot peppers sauté with garlic, and roast leg of lamb Segovian style.
  • La Era serves Canary Islands food and is located in Yaisa. In addition to the traditional fare, you will find the frescos of César Manrique, which depict life in Lanzarote before tourism.
  • Mirador de Lobos is in Playa Blanca, next door to the Natura Palace Hotel. This restaurant is child friendly and has an extensive menu.
  • Don Camillo is in Playa Blanca, on the sea front promenade towards the harbour. It offers international cuisine and has three separate kitchens, including a steak grill and pizzeria.
  • LagOmar, in Oasis de Nazaret is at the top of the village. This restaurant, serving modern international food, was part of film star Omar Sharif’s home. The quality of cooking is excellent.
